The Mission
God’s word is fascinatinG
We grant this truth to much of the Bible. It is hard to read the creation story in Genesis, tales of Kings and battles, or the account of Jesus’ birth in the Gospels and not be captivated. However, many of us have no clue what to do with the rest of the Good Book. We balk at the lengthy genealogies scattered throughout the Old Testament. We struggle through pronouncing the names of ancient people and places that we have no context for. We read the law, the tabernacle-building instructions, and lengthy ominous prophecies just trying to ‘get through it.’ It is much easier to just focus on the New Testament and to avoid all of the books we do not easily understand. I get it – I’ve been there too.
But if there is nothing for us to get out of these less exciting passages, why did God add them to His book? If 2000 years A.D. we were not meant to get anything out of a sizable chunk of the Bible, why include it at all?
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17
God does not waste words. He has intricately woven together the threads of a million lives and we sit at a unique vantage point from which we can marvel at the intricate tapestry of history. I am not a Bible Scholar with a Seminary degree; I’m just a regular person who geeks-out over genealogies, maps, and determining what *exactly* the tabernacle looked like. The mission of this site is to hopefully encourage other normal people like me to understand and love the Word of God – from cover to cover. I want to add context for those passages that have halted countless Bible-in-a-Year ambitions.
I do not read or speak any ancient languages. I am simply reading my Bible and miscellaneous other trusted sources to compile the information you will find here. Feel free to contact me with questions or reports of any heresy you may find.
I am glad you are here!
